12 x 12 new banner

Hello there everybody! Here we are with our first 12 x 12 check-in of 2014. Most of you know that January turned out to be a difficult month for me (understatement), BUT fortunately for once I was ahead of the game. I both wrote AND revised a manuscript the first week of January. I had hoped to be finished with another set of revisions on both, but alas that was not to be. I am motivated for February though and feel that, writing-wise at least, I’m off to a roaring start.

Are you reading this and haven’t yet joined 12 x 12? You have precisely 29 days left to do so. Don’t miss another day; register today!

For existing members, how did you do in January? Are you off to a drafty beginning? Let us know in the comments and in the Rafflecopter.

Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win a Emma Walton Hamilton’s course Just Write for Kids!

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “Just Write for Kids” at the top.
  2. Click on the “Comment on Emma’s Blog Post” button. It will reveal the task, which is to comment on Emma’s blog post. Commenting on Emma’s post is mandatory and gets you one point even if you didn’t complete a draft in January. If you haven’t yet commented, click here to do so. Then you click ENTER on that option in Rafflecopter, which will then open the next two options.
  3. Click on the “Wrote a PB Manuscript” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in January. If you did, click ENTER, if you did not, move on to the next step.
  4. Click on the last “Revised a PB Manuscript” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in January. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
  5. Submit your entry. Rafflecopter will track your points.

You have until midnight Eastern on Febuary 1st to enter your results. I will then have Rafflecopter draw a winner and announce it on the blog on February 2nd.

We are on our way to another successful year in 12×12!

  10. This month everything came together so nicely in the end. I wrote an entire new story, roughly mentally drafted two more (they don’t count for this month though), and revised an existing one that is almost ready to submit. PLUS, I revised lots of my illustrations with fixes that had been bugging me for a while, I am halfway through roughing out the illustrations for a client project, almost finished the dummy that goes with my revised manuscript AND prepped my paint boards to to start painting more illustrations for my portfolio and my dummy. In all it has been a very productive month. Whoohoo! Thank you 12 x 12. Hugs. T.

  15. Things have been crazy around here this month what with computer problems, medical issues, and having to say goodbye to my 18 year old cat, Canoe. Yes, that’s a photo of Canoe that I use as my icon.

Even with all that going on I still managed to write 2 historical PB drafts and revised 3 existing manuscripts (2 PBs and 1 Chapter Book) along with a query letter which I will submit to one of the February 12 x 12 agents.

    I’m glad to be back… 12 x 12 rocks!

  17. Julie…so glad Rocky is home and life can get back on track for your family.:)
Because of 12×12, I am on track as well…I did write a pb draft…and have several others in various stages of not finished. AND revised several (thanks also to ReviMo and Start the Year off Write). With Susanna’s Making Picture Book Magic class in February (and participating in Doris K. Stone’s Fearless February writing challenge), I have no doubt the I’ll have at least 12 pb draft (and hopefully a bunch of polished ones as well) by the end of the year.
Really excited to be part of this incredible community once again.:)

  22. Well, understandably so, I was a wee bit distracted with my book offer and contract to negotiate but I still managed to revise one story and write 3/4 of a manuscript…I know how it’s gonna end…just didn’t put the words down but maybe I can do that tonight!

  24. I’ve been watching the days count down, wondering if I would be able to complete the challenge for this month, when in the last week it finally came together. It seems my creative mind was working behind the scenes because an idea from PiBoIdMo, and two of the prompts from Starting the Year Write just sort of converged for me there at the end. Feels good!

  25. Sorry that January was such a tough month for you, Julie. I was fortunate and had a more productive month than I have had in awhile with 1 new picture book manuscript and 2 revised manuscripts.

  27. How does one “submit your entry” to Rafflecopter? I clicked “enter” on 2 of the 3 queries and saw it tracking those and then I logged out, but have no idea if it saved my entries, because there is no “submit” or “done” or anything button. Please clarify. This isn’t intuitive and I’m new at this.

  28. Wow, the month flew by and I can say I squeaked out a new manuscript and revised it 4 times. Looking at the long list of ideas and checking it twice to line up some new drafts!

  33. I drafted two and revised one. It was great having ReviMo at the same time (although also challenging to do so much at once!) And, Start the Year Off Write gave me the prompts for the two drafts I did write. Off to a good start! Or should I say the WRITE start!

  46. I found this wonderful challenge late in January and spent this past week sick so thought “I’ll just try to write 2 in February.” I spent a sick afternoon on the couch with my 5-year-old this afternoon and we decided to write stories together. We got our notebooks, snuggled in and each started writing and drawing stories, checking in with each other from time to time. Before I knew it I was thinking “Well, at least February is off to a good start!” Only when I finished did I realize it was, indeed, still January and a had a draft of a new story done. YAY!

  59. I missed the cutoff to check in too. I did complete a draft for January. I know I missed the contest, but does anyone know if we have to indicate on the 12 x 12 site that we completed a draft?

  60. Off to a pretty good start this year. Wrote and revised two new PBs this month. Plus a new chapter of my MG. Plus a new song! Plus I got my kids to write their Christmas thankyous. That should count for something.

  63. I was too late to enter the give away but I did both write a manuscript and revise a few in ReviMo. I have sent the MS for critiques and entered it in a competition and will send it for a rating. I suspect it wont win the competition but I do think it is a worthwhile story to be sending next month. Already started on this months MS and have entered the PB marathon so I have three outlines already happening and an idea for a chapter book.

  64. Newbie, so I missed link about entering the Raffle but I did revise on pb ms in Jan and started work on another PB along with a MG ms.

  65. I was also too late for the give away, obviously, but I did write a really messy draft in January! I’m putting that aside for now, though, and already almost done with my Feb draft.
