Emma Walton Hamilton

I’m honored to share the news that my friend, fellow author, and editor Emma Walton Hamilton featured me and my Kickstarter campaign on her blog today. Knowing how talented of a writer and editor Emma is herself, her endorsement means the world to me. Not to mention that she edited MY LOVE FOR YOU IS THE SUN, and is thus qualified to speak about the book itself.

Speaking of editors, if you need one, Emma provides freelance editing (content/developmental) services. I’ve worked with her on multiple projects and I can guarantee your work will improve dramatically under her guidance.

I’m also excited to share Emma’s news that the Children’s Literature Fellows, now in it’s second year and run by Stony Brook Southampton’s MFA in Creative Writing and Literature, is now accepting applications for 2014.

The “Fellows” is a one-year certificate program encompassing a year of instruction, mostly in distance format, with coursework developed by Emma herself and Stony Brook’s MFA in Creative Writing Director Julie Sheehan. Fellows work remotely and independently with the Stonybrook faculty, coming together in person twice a year. The second in-person gathering, in January, includes a Publishing and Editing conference arranged by the Stonybrook faculty, where fellows will have the chance to meet editors and agents.

By the end of the program, fellows will have a publishable YA or Middle Grade manuscript, or, in the case of chapter books and picture books, a series concept with one completed manuscript OR three completed manuscripts.

Folks, this is a top-notch, affordable program for those who cannot commit to a 2-3 year MFA program. One of the 12 x 12 members, Julie Gribble (author of THE BUBBLEGUM PRINCESS), was a fellow last year and had an amazing experience.

But here’s the catch! The application deadline is December 1st, and the program is highly selective. Only twelve applicants are selected. So if you’re interested, start putting your application together today! For more information on the program and the application process, head over to their website.

Thanks again to Emma for helping me EVERY step of the way with MY LOVE FOR YOU IS THE SUN!

  5. This is wonderful, Julie! Re the fellowship, I’m now working on my fourth (!) manuscript. The fellowship continues through January 2014 when Emma and the brilliant Stony Brook faculty will send us off to meet editors and agents in the Big Apple.
