12 x 12 new bannerHello everyone! What a month this has been! I hope you’ve all been happily writing, revising, and (for GOLD members) submitting.

Submissions to February featured agent Stephen Fraser will close today at 6:00 p.m. EST SHARP! Our March featured agent, Tricia Lawrence, will begin accepting submissions tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. EST.

Perhaps not surprisingly given the launch of A TROOP IS A GROUP OF MONKEYS, I did not write a new draft in February. I did, however, revise the second app in the “animal groups” trilogy and turned it into my publisher. This one features all ocean animals, and I LOVE the way it turned out (although shhh for now because I don’t want to take any of the attention away from TROOP :-)).

Now it’s your turn to report, which is all on the honor system. It is after all, your karma that’s at stake. πŸ˜‰

Here is what you need to do to check in, even if you didn’t complete a draft!

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “February Featured Author Kathleen Pelley” at the top.
  2. Click on the first “Invent your own option” button. It will reveal the task, which is to comment on Kathleen’s February 1st post. Commenting on Kathleen’s post is mandatory and gets you one point even if you didn’t complete a draft in February. If you haven’t yet commented, click here to do so. Then you click ENTER on that option in Rafflecopter, which will then open the next two options.
  3. Click on the next “Invent your own option” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in February. If you did, click ENTER, if you did not, move on to the next step.
  4. Click on the last “Invent your own option” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in February. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
  5. Submit your entry. Rafflecopter will track your points.

You have until midnight EST on March 1st to enter your results. I will then have Rafflecopter draw a winner and announce it on the blog on March 2nd.

Many, many thanks to Kathleen Pelley for doing such a wonderful job of showing us how important it is to read aloud. I could listen to Kathleen read forever and ever!

Remember –Today is the LAST DAY toΒ Register for 12 x 12 in 2013.Β Β If you don’t sign up today, you won’t get another chance until 2014.

  1. Wrote my pb ms on the eve of the last day of Feb. Whew! Thanks, Julie. Again, congrats on all these app acceptances!

  2. This has been a whirl wind of a month, but I have accomplished so much this month. I am proud of me! hugs~Lori

  3. Tina, Same here about getting in under the wire.
Lori, Exciting to hear that you’ve accomplished so much. Keep it up.

  4. It’s been a good month, learned tons, read a bunch, wrote and revised…I’m chugging right along.

  5. I find the motivation of a deadline really gets me going. This is such a great challenge. Loved Kathleen Pelley, too!

  6. Thanks for being our writing “mom”, Julie. A firm hand, lots of encouragement and patience will get us to our goals.

  7. I love that you have added the revised PB category this year.

  8. I spent the month revising two drafts. Don’t know why, but all of a sudden I’m receiving everyone’s comments to your blog in my Word Press reader. Can’t figure out how to turn it off. You receive a lot of comments. I don’t click on follow-up comments via e-mail.

  9. Plenty of revision this month, and my first submission thanks to 12×12! I also entered some children’s poetry to my library’s contest – which was a big step for me too! I wrote two PB drafts, but they are rough enough to take off some skin! A hug for Lori – and everyone else who has taken a leap this month!

  10. Actually did 2 drafts this month! (I’ve been inspired so much by the FB group and all your wonderful posts.) Am also in the process of finishing revisions today. LOVE this group! πŸ˜€

  11. I love this Rafflecopter thingiedoodle, and that you’ve added “revised a pb” to the mix this year. I didn’t think I was going to get a pb draft written this month, but I did (then had two more ideas yesterday, which I’m making myself hold for March and April — I’ve made notes!) Revised a pb that I’d received a manuscript eval on, finished a first draft of a novel-for-grownups, it’s been a good working month. Thanks for keeping us on track! And another WOOHOO for all your fabulous news this month, Julie!

  12. I revised a picture book and wrote a draft. Yay me! Yay all of us! Yay Julie! Congrads for all your success and wishing you (and me) much more future success. *wink* (I like that you are doing rafflecopter. I just have to go on Firefox to use it. It won’t load on my fav browser Opera.)

Great going fellow writer folks of mine. πŸ™‚

  13. Yeah! I did it all! Commented on Kathleen Pelley’s wonderful post! Draft! Revised!
    Thanks, Julie!

  14. February was actually less productive than I wanted it to be, but I wrote a draft titled, Everybody’s Home for Christmas.’ I thought the first version was a bit preachy, so I wrote a second version that is for a secular audience. Not sure which one I like better yet.

  15. Revising is just as awesome, right now!! Thanks, Julie!!!

  16. since I didn’t join until February, is there a place to log in my January completion of a PB?

  17. Congrats again, Julie, on the well-deserved karma that is circling your being.:)
I did get a pb draft done…and did a lot of revising on older stories, especially January’s 12×12 draft which I submitted to Rate Your Story (got a 3) and which I plan to submit to the Barbara Karlin Grant competition.

  18. I signed up for the marathon and wrote 11 drafts. I revised one of them into a completed manuscript. After taking Mary Kole’s online class, I went back through a backlog of dozens of old manuscripts and discovered that none of them was as good as the one I wrote this month, so I submitted it to Stephen Fraser. I have learned so much about the current picture book market since joining PiBoIdMo last November, and that was after attending four conferences last year! I had given up on the form and started concentrating on longer fiction, but the energy and talent in this group has helped me realize that I can integrate several of my seemingly disparate passions through picture books. (I also write poetry, take photos, draw, paint, and enjoy interactive storytelling/puppeteering) Until recently, I have felt “all over the place.” This is a promising direction. I will be interested in seeing where it leads. Thanks for being here. Love you all.

  19. Just making sure that we can still upgrade our membership 30 days after we signed up even if the 30 days goes past March 1st. I will likely upgrade, but I want to make sure I still have time to think about it!

  20. Congrats, Julie, on all your recent exciting news!
The end of February is proving much more productive for me than the beginning, so though I didn’t get a new picture book drafted this month, I think that will happen in March. Revisions on 2 previous picture books are going well, and I’m learning so much about writing in verse from the RhymeWeaver website. I’m actually finding the revising process fun this time around.

  21. Yes, congratulations, Julie! And yeah for me! I drafted a brand new picture book and revised another with queries for both growing stronger each day. BTW, thanks for sharing your post about RhymeWeaver. It’s going to be an excellent addition to my favorites!

  22. On target. It’s been a good month!

  23. I created my FEBRUARY layout/submission. Just under the wire! WHEW.

  24. I didn’t get as much as I wanted done, but I am working on it! πŸ˜€

  25. I have completed my February draft! They always seem to have a Christmassy theme at this time of year. πŸ˜‰

  26. Got part of a draft done, but blew it on the submissions timing. Thankfully, there are more months to 2013; hope to get an earlier start for March!

  27. I just got Mem Fox book in the mail yesterday πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to steal the time to read it πŸ™‚ and it’s all thanks to her post. Thank you both πŸ™‚ plus I aso wrote March’s story πŸ˜€ I’ve definitely had a great February

  28. Almost have a draft done… not sure if I like it. Tomorrow or tonight I’m going to try to revise one of my older stories, since I have nothing from this to revise.

  29. PB Draft Done! Just in time…(central standard time, that is)! Titled (for the moment) “Momma’s Green Coffee.”
Good month, was able to submit to Stephen Fraser, and as a result also got a revision done.
On to March. Thanks Julie – Damon Dean

  30. I completely, revised and submitted a PB in Feb as well as beginning work on my March one. Here’s to a lovely new month…;~)

    Donna L Martin

  31. Congrats Julie! I’m looking forward to your next app.

  32. Another great month. Thanks, Julie!

  33. Love the App Julie, so do the kids! Yes, Feb has been a very busy month for me! Revised, new PB draft (prob be revised next month!!) what a start to the year!

  34. You’ve had a fabulous February. Congratulations. I’ve been busy revising three manuscripts and submitted twice. Thank you Stephen Fraser for the good feedback.

  35. This was a good month! Thanks Julie

  36. Thanks, Julie! I wrote two pb drafts this month and revised and submitted another. Thanks for the encouragement along the way! I absolutely loved the post by Kathleen Pelley. What a valuable post! Thank you!

  37. I didn’t get an original draft done but did a ton of revisions on a draft. πŸ™‚ Thank you!!

  38. 12 x 12 has lit such a fire under me. I have 3 years of PiBoIdMo ideas that have been languishing–until I met Julie Hedlund! Thanks so much for the encouragement and framework that keeps me disciplined and motivated!

  39. It’s been a tough month but I revised on PB manuscript and wrote the first draft for a new idea. Looking forward to another fantastic month with the group.

  40. Congratulations again, Julie. What a month for you! I didn’t write anything new this month, but did a lot of revising. I’m excited about this year.

  41. Christine Connolly

Whew! Almost forgot! Happy to have revised an oldie and have a very rough draft of a newie!

  42. Revised an existing manuscript, practised my pitch and query and submitted to Feb’s agent! Btw, I can’t find the Rafflecopter widget on my screen to invent my own button. Did I miss a step somewhere?

  43. Eek! I forgot to check in! Yes, I completed my manuscript for February. I finish EVERY month, but I almost always forget to check in on time. *sigh* The sad part is, the day before, I am always thinking, “I’ve go to remember to check in tomorrow.” Then I forget,

  44. I always forget to add my name. I need to get my user name changed to my actual name, I think.

    ~Becky Fyfe

  45. Rachelle Draney

I didn’t check in on time. I’m still trying to figure out 12 X 12. It’s such a great opportunity and I’m really appreciating all I’m learning. I wrote two new PB manuscripts (drafts) in February and did some revising on another.

    Rachelle Draney

  46. Sorry for not checking in on time! Things have been crazy around here what with computer problems, medical issues, and then my son trying to fly home from Seattle when the Northeaster hit… he finally made it back here 2 days later by flying into Newark and then driving home.

In January I wrote 3 historical PB drafts and this month I revised an existing manuscript along with a query letter which I submitted to February’s 12 x 12 agent.

  47. I’m a Jonny-come-lately to check in as well. Sorry! Revised a ms in Feb. and started March’s ms. Onward!

  48. Kenzie Benbrook

Aarrrgh, running late – don’t know what happened to February! I did not get a PB MS drafted but I did do the PB half marathon and came up with 13 new story ideas so that is progress of a sort. Having difficulty taking those ideas and expanding on them so I guess that will be a goal for March. Waiting to see if I am on the short list for a writing competition I entered back in October so all that checking is taking up a lot of time lol. Also been backwards and forwards with my publisher about illustrations for my book, hoping I am going to like them . . .

  49. im late as i have been away for 5 days out of range… but yes i did 2 in feb…lol just in case baby comes early and i dont make march πŸ˜‰
