A birthday toast

I am so overwhelmed and touched by all of the well-wishes from friends and family near and far for my birthday this past Tuesday.  It really makes me feel like I’ve celebrated with you all.  I had such a great day, and the fun continues this weekend as my stepmother and my brother and his girlfriend arrived today.  We’ll have dinner at a top-notch restaurant, go gallivanting at the Boulder Creek festival, have a big BBQ at our house on Sunday, and cap off the fun with the Bolder Boulder 10k on Monday.  Not too bad, I have to say.

My kids both finished school this week too.  Today Jay “graduated” from preschool in a sweet little ceremony.  Between the two kids, we’ve spent 6 years at that school, so it was very bittersweet saying goodbye.  The teachers and staff have been like family and have loved and taken such wonderful care of our children. These transitions are difficult for us parents as we helplessly watch our children grow up too fast.  BUT, we’re all excited for the next era in Jay’s life – elementary school.

We’re also excited for our summer adventures, and in general, everything just feels great right now.  I haven’t been getting much writing done, but I know that time will return.  For now, I am my life, my family and my friends.  I can’t ask for much more than that.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend to my U.S. friends.  May your barbeques be sunny and your flowers be blooming…

  1. Happy Birthday week again Julie, you have such an exciting summer ahead, things are really happening! I think we have the same wine glasses you know. Do yours have a ridge that runs diagonally up the glass? I’m not allowed to use mine any more after they started getting chipped 🙂
Special occasions only lol. And this is a special occasion. I’ll have a glass for you later Julie, wish we could meet up in person though. Take care, Catherine.

    • I just broke one of mine this week. We hardly even have a matched set anymore because we keep adding one or two to keep a decent stock. 🙂

  2. So glad you had a nice birthday! I know what you mean about the preschool graduation – my kids all attended a little school for elementary school (K-8th) and the last one is graduating from 8th grade in 2 weeks. After 13 years at that little white schoolhouse it will be very hard to say goodbye! Hope your weekend is terrific!

    • Susanna, one of the staff at the Preschool said (correctly) that these transitions are much more difficult on the parents than the kids, who are already excited to move on to the next phase.

Anyway, I’ll be thinking of you as your kiddos matriculate. Good luck! 🙂

  3. Sounds like you are adding magic to the transitions in your family’s life. It’s lovely to read about. So glad your birthday was happy. Will be looking forward to hearing about your summer.

  4. Sounds like a terrific weekend! Enjoy every minute.

  5. I hope the Bolder Boulder was great! And, cheers to a wonderful summer.

  6. Happy belated birthday, Julie!

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIRL! How’s the selling of the house/ move going? We are only 5 years apart. I just turned 35. I don’t think people are old until they hit 80. I still feel like I’m in my twenties. So does my dad, and he’s 61! Again, happy belated birthday. Glad it was special.
