I’m back with the Gratitude Sunday series with much to report for this week.

Quotes on Gratitude

“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” — Aldous Huxley

“To do the useful thing, to say the courageous thing, to contemplate the beautiful thing: that’s enough for one man’s life.” — T.S. Eliot

“The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.” — Emily Dickenson

Gratitude list for the week ending May 5

  1. MY NEW WEBSITE AND BLOG IS LIVE! I’ve been working on it for more than three months, and it was a major goal for 2012 that I can now check off my list.
  2. Graphic designer Kristy Lehman, who helped me create the anchor image for the site with extremely short notice, and to my friend Beth Thaler for referring her.
  3. I figured out how to create mailing lists, so that I could start sending a monthly newsletter – another 2012 goal.
  4. WordPress plugins. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways – contact forms, Facebook share, Follow widgets, and on and on…
  5. My family, for putting up with my constant working and obsessing this week and giving me the time I needed.
  6. All of my wonderful 12 x 12 in 2012 participants! Β They come to my aid when I’m struggling and become an instant cheering section when I have good news. Β When I called for 12 x 12 testimonials, I got 35 back in less than two hours! Β They have been patient and helpful as I’ve worked out the kinks in the new website. Thank you!
  7. The many friends (both real life and online) and family who, upon hearing I was going through a rough time, reached out and offered comfort, support and assistance.
  8. Getting my March manuscript revised
  9. The fantastic volunteers at my kids’ school who put on the Jogathon event and the Running Club.
  10. Champagne and cupcakes to celebrate the website launch

What are you grateful for this week?

  1. The things I’m grateful for: good neighbors, ladybugs hatching, out-of-town visitors.

  2. Congrats on your successful launch!

  3. Yay!!! Go you! you have been very busy and very very brave in your new venture. What a wonderful success. I subscribed to your newsletter right away (I didn’t want to miss out on anything…lol). I am grateful that I got through April with some downs but mostly ups like completing my April draft comfortably and taking a more slower pace with my writing which I needed to do and feel happy about. Also for the lovely weather we are having at the moment before the onsaught of winter.

    • Julie Hedlund

I agree that sometimes slowing down can be the best thing for the “health” of your writing. Glad you were able to do that.

  4. It was worth all the hassles, Julie! – a great bright, attractive, navigable new site – and I love the anchor image. πŸ™‚

I am grateful for the wonderful friendships I have been building with illustrators from around the globe through my Wednesday series.

    • Julie Hedlund

Yes, your Wednesday series is wonderful! I’m grateful for it too. πŸ™‚

  5. Julie, I’m grateful for you and other friends who inspire me. I can’t fathom how you’ve completed so much in the last month or so with everything going on in your life. Definitely, an inspiration!

  6. Congratulations on creating a lustrous and convivial new site!

I am grateful for the MS solution that materialized upon waking this morning, and for the clear skies that might let me catch a better view of the Super-Moon tonight!

My inner Ployanna would also like to add a twist to Huxley’s quote: β€œYou can be certain of improving a corner of the universe by improving your own self.”

    • Julie Hedlund

lustrous and convivial Love that compliment!

I wish we had seen the Super Moon. It was too cloudy, but we had a lightning storm instead, which was also fun to watch.

  7. Congratulations on surving all the changes. I’m grateful for a day of play today.

  8. Julie, you have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. You should be darn proud. And it all looks amazing!

And thanks for those inspirational quotes. I could read stuff like that all day long.

  9. Your site looks amazing! I’ve clicked on every tab and I love what I see. I think this new site is going to prompt a lot of us to rethink our layout design. I’m grateful for the terrific role models/mentors (unbeknownst to you all) in this writing community.

    • Julie Hedlund

Thanks so much Pam! I appreciate you taking the time to look through all the pages. I’ll be writing about the process and tips in the first edition of my newsletter! πŸ™‚

  10. Your new website is so lovely! I am really liking the fun colors and happiness of it. Congrats on the new digs!

Today I’m grateful for my family because they put up with me hiding in my cave so I can write. They totally rock.

    • Julie Hedlund

It’s wonderful when family will support those days when you need to hole up and write!

  11. Jarm Del Boccio

I love your anchor image, Julie…vivid, refreshing and whimsical! You must share, on another post(s) the tips you gathered in beginning your own website. Of course, you are welcome…your 12×12 community is happy to support you. Actually, grateful is a better word…
I’m thankful our basement didn’t flood during a Midwest storm, nor was our car damaged in a shower of hail. We had boxes of homeschool books we were selling the following day that could have been destroyed, but weren’t…thankfully!

    • Julie Hedlund

Jarm, I’ll be sharing lots of tips in my newsletter, and perhaps more in a post if there’s too much.

      Glad your books survived!!

  12. Congrats Julie! Your site looks awesome πŸ™‚

  15. Julie…love the new site. πŸ™‚ I’m grateful for your enthusiasm. πŸ™‚ I’m grateful for your courage. πŸ™‚ You inspire me to take steps I wouldn’t otherwise! I must have missed the call for testimonials…I am always telling folks about the 12×12 Challenge and how it has allowed me to give myself permission to spend time writing picture book drafts. πŸ™‚

    • Julie Hedlund
