Smoke from High Park Fire as visible from my neighborhood

Quiet week as I’ve been on my own in CO. It will be great to reconnect with the family later this week, but the time to work and reflect has also been nice.

Quotes on Gratitude

“Gratitude is the single most important ingredient to living a successful and fulfilled life.” — Jack Canfield

“Gratitude as a discipline involves a conscious choice. Β I can choose to be grateful even when my emotions and feelings are steep and hurt and resentful. Β It is amazing how many occasions present themselves in which I can choose gratitude instead of a complaint.” — Father Henri Nouwen

“In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” — Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Gratitude List for the week ending June 23

  1. Imagine being outside in the sun with temperatures soaring over 100 degrees. Then imagine putting on the heavy protective and flame-retardant gear that firefighters have to wear. Then imagine walking into a fire area, trying to contain a fire that feeds itself on the hot temperatures. That is what the brave firefighters in Northern Colorado are doing every day in efforts to contain the High Park Fire. For that, I am so grateful. All of us in Colorado are indebted to them. Thank you!
  2. Great friends who tell you the truth. πŸ™‚
  3. My mother, who made me the most delicious dinner last night.

    Sleeping dog lies

  4. Bringing Rocky home from the kennel for a short respite before going to doggy bootcamp later this week.
  5. A quiet week to work, read and exercise
  6. I had a lot of fun preparing for the 12 x 12 in 2012 Blog Party, even if the end result wasn’t what I expected. (You’ll find out tomorrow!)
  7. Going to sleep without setting an alarm!
  8. My new blender
  9. A trip to not one, but TWO bookstores in the same day!!
  10. Gorgeous sunsets all week

What are you grateful for this week?

  1. Don’t tell me I’ve alreafy missed the blog party. Yikes I need to get organised before I can be grateful lol. Great post!

  2. What’s up with all of these Colorado fires, Julie? We’ve been here over 15 years…and I don’t remember it ever being so widespread or early in the season. We can see the plumes of smoke of the Waldo Canyon Fire…packed a bunch of stuff and just hoping we won’t have to evacuate. I’m supposed to leave on Saturday for a short trip to Chicago…hope things calm down here by then…I’d feel badly leaving my husband to deal with it all. πŸ™‚
I’m grateful for 12 x 12…will do a blog post tonight about my pb writing journey the last six months! I’m grateful that the fires haven’t affected us negatively yet!! I’m grateful about the very distinct possibility that my daughter and her family will be relocating to Colorado Springs within the year!!!

Julie, I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers regarding the fires that rage up north.

Vivian, I can’t wait to read your pb writing story! As far as fires, it’s going to be a rough summer. I’ve never experienced a June this hot in CO. Unfortunately this makes a perfect breeding grounds for fires.

Glad about your daughter though! πŸ™‚

  3. Oooooh, #9. You’re such a glutton, Julie! LOL I’m pretty sure I need to do this sometime soon.

    • Julie Hedlund

I absolutely am, but books are the one thing I never feel guilty about buying! πŸ™‚

  4. I’m grateful for YOU. And also that you got a new blender, because I need one. What’d you get?

    • Julie Hedlund

I finally forked over the cash and got a BlendTec. It is the MERCEDES of blenders. My BFF got me into these green smoothies, and I can cram that sucker FULL of frozen fruit, greens, etc and 45 seconds later I have a perfectly blended smoothie. It’s beyond awesome.

  5. Those firefighters are angels here on Earth. Every one of them deserves our gratitude.

Your week sounds heavenly. I love that you’re grateful for your blender. It’s really the simple things in life that make life fabulous. I think I need to google the blender you got since I really need a new one and I love green smoothies. πŸ˜‰

  6. Hi Julie. Easy. I’m grateful that the clinic just fitted my son in at the last minute, so we could see a doctor today!! Now I can heave a sigh of relief, knowing I’ve done all I can to get my youngest boy back on the road to health. After a night of his coughing I am so weary today. And yet…grateful πŸ™‚
