Moonrise over the lake

We had a fantastic week in Northern Michigan. Perfect summer days and nights.

Quotes on Gratitude

“Be grateful… It is the only totally reliable get-rich-quick scheme.” — Ben Stein

“The greatest thing is to give thanks for everything. Β He who has learned this knows what it means to live. Β He has penetrated the whole mystery of life: giving thanks for everything.” — Albert Schweitzer

“I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.” — Leonardo da Vinci

Gratitude List for the week ending July 7

  1. PERFECT summer weather in Michigan.
  2. Loons trilling on the lake in the morning and evening. Their song is love and loss, hope and despair, gladness and mourning – all rolled into one. Such regal birds.
  3. Both kids learned to dive, and Jay lost his first tooth. Great week of firsts

    Diving off the boat!

  4. Long visits with two of my oldest friends
  5. Being able to run outside in the woods
  6. Delicious food – Nancy made all of my Michigan favorites
  7. Tim McCanna’s jingle for the 12 x 12 Blog Party
  8. Key Lime Pie Martini at the Bearded Dogg. One would have been enough though… πŸ™‚
  9. Taking evening cruises on the pontoon boat at dusk, including one where the engine failed and we ended up rowing the boat back to shore (like Michael).
  10. Grandma Nancy’s new bonfire pit, from which we roasted marshmallows and lit our fireworks.
What are you grateful for this week?

  1. I always look forward to your Gratitude Sundays. Great photos.
LOL – the key lime pie martini!!

    • Thanks Karen. The FIRST one was super yummy. The second one just made me a little sick. πŸ™‚

  2. This week, I especially loved the faces of the disabled veterans at the VA Home when they held and hugged and petted Cupcake. This naughty little mutt brings a LOT of happiness.

  3. So much this week: my freedom; a brand new picture book out; gallery opening of a group show and meeting people in the community; the opportunity to give a painting demo in the gallery and the 16 folks who stayed to watch and ask questions. Euphoric grateful. Like your young divers.

    • CONGRATULATIONS on your new PB! “Euphoric grateful” – LOVE that phrase!!

  4. Love reading your Gratitude Sundays , Julie. This week I came across a couple of great blogs, had great time with friends, and changed Mum over from dial-up desktop to broadband laptop. Yep not a bad week.

  5. Cool, Julie! This sounds a lot like my week. Although here in TC, it was hot, hot, hot! Cherry Festival starts today and it’s a bit cooler. Looking forward to another wonderful week capped by ThrillerFest next weekend!

    • Hey Diane, I forgot you were in TC! Yes, it was hot this past week, but it doesn’t make so much of a difference when you’re living on a lake. Enjoy the Cherry Festival and ThrillerFest!!

  6. Key Lime Martini! Sounds like one I’d love to try πŸ™‚ I’m grateful for the opportunity I got to travel this summer and equally grateful to be back on solid ground and sleeping in my own bed!!

  7. I love the eclectic mix of gratitudes you do some cool stuff Julie.

  8. I’m grateful for resiliency this week. I got one of those big giant reminders that life isn’t always fair, and instead of crumbling, I’m buckling down and moving on. And boy does it feel good to write that down!

  9. I’m grateful for a wonderful weekend spent with old friends, my son, Lou, and his wife, Kim, and their friends at a great wedding. Also got a day at Horseneck Beach, a wonderful spot I visited in my childhood. Weddings always make me grateful for my wonderful husband, Chuck.

  10. Summers are SO wonderful! Enjoyed and shared your grats.

  11. Reading your gratitude posts is like a little slice of heaven. Sounds like you are having a great trip.
