Can you believe the summer is over and we are rolling into fall? August was an exciting month – LA SCBWI and WriteonCon. Plus, for the first time since May I managed to complete a picture book draft. Whew! Now the rest of our 12 x 12 in 2012 participants need to check in and let us know if you completed a picture book draft in August.

Many thanks again to our August featured author – poetic wonder Rebecca Kai Dotlich. Don’t lose your chance to win – make sure you comment on that post!!

Also, we can all go one step further to support Rebecca by purchasing a copy of her brand new book (mentioned in her post) What Can a Crane Pick Up, due from Knopf Books for Young Readers on September 11. I’ve already pre-ordered my copy!

If you did complete a draft in August, let us know in the comments and that will get you another entry. YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR NAME (FIRST AND LAST) IN YOUR COMMENT IF YOU WANT IT TO BE COUNTED AS AN ENTRY.   You have until midnight EST September 1st to leave a comment on this post and/or the August 1st post to be eligible for the drawing.

  5. Shannon Abercrombie

I’m proud to say I finished 2 stories. One I’m rewriting and editing the other well it’s been thrown in the file for a total rewrite in the future. I’ve got to give it space so I can rethink the characterization of the main character and the structure.

I am so excited about my August draft. Have to thank fellow 12×12 for the fire-up to get it done, and the mouse in the house for giving me the idea – not for waking me up in the middle of the night though!

      Oh senility, senility
      How you affect my ability.

  48. I always spend at least a part of August in New Hampshire, at the Red House that my father bought when I was a child. It is my favorite place in the world. This year I was able to stay the entire month of August. One day while we were kayaking on a small pond, watching a mother and father loon with a young (no longer baby) loon, I thought up and outlined/scribbled a rough draft. Now I am driving back to my home in Oak Park, outside Chicago, and looking forward to writing/revising and developing my ideas.

  49. I actually got one done and worked on polishing another. I amazed myself this month.

  50. It’s been a while, but I’m back with a finished draft this month. Yay!

And now, soon back home to my gang’s busy lives, almost back to school for the kids, and back to writing, writing, writing. Life is good!

  54. august done.. rough.. but done! kelly mcdonald

  55. A very rough draft done very, very early this morning (before midnight, though, central, mountain or pacific time!). Also, loads of revision work in August on earlier 12×12 drafts. On to September…

  56. Done AND submitted (for once!), but didn’t remember to check-in! Now the going gets tough as the school year begins!

  57. Nope – no picture book text from me for August…except I went to Camp NaNoWriMo and completed a 50K middle grade novel draft!! I’m hard pressed to do something every day let alone every month, it seems. Still, I love this 12 x 12 in 2012 challenge. I’m happy with all I’ve accomplished so far and hey – the year is still young, right? Here’s to those brand new school supplies. Yum! – Pierr
