Today’s Perfect Picture Book Friday selection is Dinosauring by Deb Lund, one of our 12 x 12 in 2012 picture book authors. I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this, the third book in her Dino Thrillogy. This book releases on June 19th and I highly recommend buying not only this book, but the other two in the series – Dinosailors and All Aboard the Dinotrain. In fact, to celebrate the release of Dinosauring, Deb is offering one lucky blog reader signed copies of both Dinosailors and Dinotrain. I have no doubt that whoever receives those books will end up buying this one. They are dinomite! To enter, leave a comment on this post. I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday, June 20th.

Written by Deb Lund, Illustrated by Howard Fine

Harper Collins, June, 2012

Suitable for: Ages 4+

Themes/Topics: Dinosaurs, Adventure, Airplanes, Flying, Silliness, Books for Boys

Opening/Synopsis: From Kirkus: “It takes multiple tries and a mighty dino-push to get their Brobdignagian cargo plane off the ground, but once airborne it’s all fun and games. They dangle from their wide trapeze / And dinodance on wings with ease. / The crowd below screams out for more. / They love to watch them dinosoar! Dinosaur fans, or anyone who enjoys horseplay on a humongous scale, will happily welcome back these gargantuan goofs.

Activities:  I didn’t find any formal activities for this book, but one idea is to make paper airplanes, draw dinosaurs on them and then let them “fly.” If you have all three books in this dino-dazzling series, you can ask kids to compare and contrast the adventures and hijinks of our dino-friends. You could also have your kids make up another adventure for these dinos to take.

Why I Like This Book: What’s not to love? Here you have a series of books that combine dinos, “things that go” and serious silliness – all written in fabulous rhyme! My kids argue over which one we will read first because they have different favorites, but we always end up reading them all. The books are clever and just plain fun.
