Now Available as a Gorgeous Hardcover!

Based on the critically-acclaimed storybook apps, A TROOP IS A GROUP OF MONKEYS and A SHIVER OF SHARKS, the hardcover version makes visiting  romp through the animal (and ocean!) kingdom available to readers without iPads.

Owners of the apps will appreciate the up-close look at Pamela Baron’s stunning illustrations of the animal groups AND two “surprise” animal groups which did not appear in either app.

You can get a copy of TROOP your favorite indie bookstoreBarnes & Noble, or Amazon.

If you or the kids in your lives don’t know what a group of peacocks, lobsters, skunks, snails, crocodiles or flamingoes is called, don’t deprive yourself of the opportunity to learn. You’ll be amused and entertained along the way!

“Both apps feature delightful, interactive pages and Baron’s frame-worthy illustrations are a delight. Children will enjoy finding a fish in a pelican’s mouth and helping a sleuth of bears scatter bees near a hive. Vocabulary-rich texts (“scuttles,” “pandemonium,” “plucks,” “vibrant,” “ambushes,” “scours,” “retracts”); quality illustrations; lively tunes; and an environmental message, should make these popular choices inside and outside the classroom.”School Library Journal

“With pleasant rhyming text, Hedlund teaches children about 16 different collective nouns for wild animals. “A parliament of owls hoots in the night. / A pandemonium of parrots begins to take flight.” The rhythm and rhyme contribute to a pleasant narration in the “Read to Me” option. Appealing watercolor-and-pencil illustrations using textured backgrounds are warm and inviting.”Kirkus

“This is great fun: an animated app teaching children the various plural nouns for animals: monkeys, bats, owls, parrots and so on.”The Guardian

“Each of the animal groups—a troop of monkeys, a colony of bats—comes to life on the screen and invites young readers to enjoy interactive play while reinforcing the vocabulary words on each page.”Publisher’s Weekly

  3. No wonder you’re excited! What a delightful book,Julie. I bought your template for making an app but haven’t got my nerve up yet to try it. I have a geography idea that would be perfect in an app, so…. maybe one day I’ll get as excited as you are today.:-) In the meantime, I continue with my series of print and eBooks, Gatsby’s Grand Adventures Barb Cairns..
