First, let me tell you that I am a VERY recent convert to the notion that authors need videos. I went kicking and screaming into video for all the same reasons you might be objecting. No time, no money, for one. But also, I’m a writer. I’m not a visual person. I didn’t even like to WATCH videos much less create them.

Then I saw this quote from literary agent Rachelle Gardner’s blog. Technically the post was about Pinterest, but it applies to video too. “As a writer, you may be more attuned to words than visuals. You may not be a YouTube fan, and you prefer to read a written blog post rather than watch a vlog. But the rest of the world – your readers – isn’t like you. They enjoy pictures as well as words (or more than words).”

Lucky for me, just when I wanted to learn video, Katie Davis asked me to beta-test her latest online course, Video Idiot Boot Camp. I’m telling you, I went from knowing NOTHING to being able to create all different kinds of videos in a matter of weeks. And you know what? I’ve found I LOVE making videos! It’s a brand-new creative outlet for me, and I’ve discovered that making videos is just telling stories in a different medium.

Now the course is officially launched so YOU can learn to make videos too. I know firsthand that to get just one professional video created costs, at a minimum, $200, and more often $500+. So this course is a great deal. In fact, I’m now so passionate about what I learned I’m helping Katie promote the course.* What better way to do that then to share a video testimonial with you. I hope you enjoy it! If so, check out my YouTube channel too! :-)

If you decide to sign up and use my link, I get a referral. So if you do, thanks!

  1. I’m here to say to people who are unsure if they should take this course, DO IT!!!! I saw your mention of it on 12×12 lst week, and signed up thinking I’d get to it eventually, but wanted to have it available when I was ready so that’s why I signed up right that moment. Then I looked at the first lesson and started seeing all the possibilities. I’m now well into Lesson Two, and I am SO GLAD I didn’t hesitate.

This is going to be such an addition to the new website I’m working on, I can hardly wait to be able to do the things that are rocketing around in my imagination.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have homework to do, writing down the ideas that occurred to me as I was going to sleep last night!

    • Beth, I’m glad I’m not the only one who is boiling over with enthusiasm for what I learned in VIBC!! Thanks for commenting and letting others know too! :-)

  2. What funny timing. My video today is a shocker, I am definitely taking that course. Thanks, Julie!

    • Catherine, How cool that you’re going to take that course! Wish I could, too. Maybe someday. Can’t wait to see the videos you make!

  3. I know Ia little bit about video editing, but I’d like to learn more!

  4. Oh, what temptation. I would love to take the video class, and I know anything Katie Davis teaches is well worth it, but it will be a long while before I can manage this. Full-time care giver for 20-month-old grandson and soon his newborn sissy, too. And egads, they’re moving and I’m going to have to help, plus finish unpacking from our own move a year and a half ago and blah, blah, blah, on and on, cramming a year’s worth of catching up into a month off. I’m feeling overwhelmed, but I’m definitely interested in this course. Have been making silly YouTube videos for a couple years now, bumbling my way through. As long as it’s fun, that’s all I care about at this point.

I want to keep up with everyone’s videos – Katie’s, Julie’s, Catherine’s, and others. I’m guessing each video will reflect the various personalities of the creators, and that’s what I love about it!

  5. Hi Julie. You sold me, so I immediately signed up to VIBC through your links. This has been something I’ve wanted to do for some time. Lesson 1 certainly whetted my appetite to learn more. Just got lesson 2 in my inbox. Yeah! I can see it is going to be fun.
